This is another one of those episodes whose plot’s primary function seems to be providing a setting or an excuse for extensive character interaction and development. Because seriously, the Drakken demon (or however it’s spelled) and its entry into our world as a basis for an entire episode is a little thin. But when it eventually turns out to come from Pylea, and Lorne starts reacting to this and the appearance of one of his cousins — awesomeness. All the allusions to what life is like in Pylea, his obvious disgust for these ways, Lorne’s perpetual sarcastic commenting of everything, his small digressions into the enormously trivial: I love it all.
When you on top of all this Lorne goodness throw in some conflicts of loyalty for Gunn, torn between his old crew and the Angelettes as he is, as well as some glimpses into Cordelia’s life, Wesley’s relation to his father, and the first scene with Winifred Burkle, you practically have the makings of a pretty good episode.
Oh, and I bought Wolfmother’s debut album today, and just as I started writing this post, the refrain of “Dimension” started, and the lead singer yelled “into another dimension”, before one of the song’s awesome bass solos began. Yay.

You know what’s the story behind this arc, right? The people running the show - amongst others Tim Minear, I’m guessing, but I can’t remember for sure - went to Joss and said “Hey, we’re kind of finishing our season-arc with Lindsey and stuff four episodes early. Wanna have fun?” and then Joss just couldn’t resist, so he went in and did just that, made up this whole new four-episode-arc to fill the rest of the season with.
That man is too brilliant.

No, no, no:
Numfar, do the dance of shining ingenuity!

Indeed.
Also, I mis-typed and lost the “f”. Shame galore upon me.
Numfar? You know what to do.

“Numfar: Do the dance of other people’s shameful typos.”

I was thinking more along the lines of “Numfar! Do that dance of shame”, seeing as that actually is one of two canon Numfar-dances, but hey, your works too.

Yeah, well, you’ve met me? Clever lad, but not very good at remembering things from canon.
