Finally watched “Stargate” again. It’s been at least six years or so since the last time I saw it, and I was actually relieved to see how little it sucked.

All in all, it’s the classic archetype of adventure movies. Nerdy academician, stout but troubled soldier, basis in various von Däniken-like theories of the past, supernatural elements, a travel to a strange and unknown world, love, sudden changes of heart, threats of Armageddon, and the final, multicomponent struggle, where various factions within the opposing factions face each other in relatively separate battles.

Normally, I’m somewhat sceptic to these Emmerich-Devlin-Kassar productions and their ilk, but as I watch more and more of them, I notice that I can actually enjoy them, despite the fact that they’re not much more than two dimensional. “Van Helsing”, “The Fifth Element”, “The Mummy”, and these kinds of films are actually great fun to watch, even if they don’t necessarily challenge the intellect too much. And even if they all have the same kind of blazing-brass, vibretto-strings, pompous soundtracks.

It’s not thought-provoking (or any other kind of provoking, for that matter), important in any way or extraordinarily enthralling, but it’s none the less good. 7.0/10.

Sigh. And now I gotta start dowloading SG-1, too, at least the first couple of seasons, to see if it’s any good. And that comes on top of BSG, VM and B5. Triple sigh. :|
