Wow. Just wow.
This, now this is one prime example on the awesome continuity of the Buffyverse. Here, in a relatively anonymous, stand-alone episode, which still manages to be pivotal to the ‘verse, The First Evil is introduced, and Its modi operandi is established. So, we forget about It for a couple of years, maybe even repudiate it as a flaw in the ‘verse’s continuity and logic coherence, before Whedon brings it back for the final season. Gee, I’m almost bereft of words that can properly describe my respect for Joss Whedon.
Also, I can’t help but wonder at the lack of brain activity I displayed when first watching this episode. I mean, how could I possibly have missed noticing the ever present emphasis on how hot it is, and then failed to speculate when suddenly, out of nowhere, like a true deus ex machina (with the exeption of the lack of mechanical contraptions, that is), a blizzard arrives and saves Angel from getting a severe case of sunburn. Gee, I’m almost bereft of words that can properly describe my lack of respect for myself at the moment.
But seriously, this episode had it all. Willow, Cordelia, Xander, Giles, Angel, Buffy, Oz — all of them had great moments in this episode.
