It’s only been one week since I received the Angel and Buffy DVD sets from Amazon, and I’ve already watched the first season of Buffy, so yay me! Or, to be more specific, yay my sister, because if it hadn’t been for her, it’d probably be a while before I started watching the series again.
Anyway, it’s actually better the second time around. (Although I admit that could just be because my love for the show is nearing insane levels; people who hated it the first time around’ll probably hate it the second time around, too. But they’re not me, so all I gotta say for them, beyond what I’ve already said, is fuck ‘em.) I usually sit with a sheepish grin on my face through entire episodes (seriously, you’d think I was watching Scrubs!), as I enjoy meeting the gang again, laughing with and of them, and generally having the time of my life. (One of them, anyway. [You see? Modified hyperboles are the way to go; harder to be get stuck in one of those, as they're very flexible. Unlike normal hyperboles, of course, where the sarcasm/irony's often lost in written communication.]) Sure, many of the plots are just as weird (I won’t say bad, because they’re usually awesome as setting) as the first time around. But this second time I am enjoying the character stuff and the humour even more than the first time, as I am now more familiar with their style. I am also more connected to the characters, and I have a kind of sentimental, nostalgic and wistful relationship to it all, which probably helps enhancing my watching experience.
Almost can’t wait ’till Thursday, when my sister and I (hopefully) will get started on season 2. Damn, I’m almost regretting getting addicted to Battlestar Galactica, Carnivale and House, because if I hadn’t, we could be watching Buffy tomorrow, too.
Oh well. I’m off to rewatch some Heroes before I get started on episode 10 tomorrow. I’m as giddy as a school girl, to quote John Goodman’s character in episode 7 of Studio 60. ![]()

John Goodman rocks. As does Studio 60. Seen the new one yet? Awesomity.
Glad you’re enjoying it more the second time around, I did, too, ’cause I mostly remembered the faults and how much less good than the later seasons it was, so that all the character-stuff and brilliant dialogue leaped out as positive surprises all the time.

Nah, I’m downloading iot as we speak. I don’t doubt you, though, as empirical evidence points towards Studio 60 being quality through and through. Watched the first nine episodes again yesterday, and they were almost as good the second time. Not as good as Whedon-stuff on the second viewing, but hey, it’d be kinda unfair of me to expect that. After all, he is The Master.

Yeah, that’s been striking me too. And I had the same experience with Angel. Gods, but Whedon does rock…

He does, at that. Or, maybe not rock, but he does dance. The dance of joy, for instance.
