1. I just wrote a new page, entitled “Buffysodes”, on which I’ve put links to all my quasi reviews of Buffysodes. In time, it might be renamed to just “’sodes” or something, and have links to more reviews, but for now this is all there is. It’s primarily written as a service to my sister, to spare her the risk of spoilers if she wants to read these reviews of mine as we make our way through season 7. Last night we watched 8 episodes or so (I left her appartement around 1.30AM, some ten or five minutes after we watched the beginning of the show’s more exasperating and brilliant cliffhanger; suffice to say, I felt cruel again
), and I hope wee’ll manage something like that tonight, too, so it won’t be long before she can read it all without fear of spoilers, anyway, but hey. I should have done this is any event, and it’s nice to have an excuse.
2. Season 2 of Veronica Mars is, after the first three episodes, looking to be just as awesome as the first one. Not only are the season plot arcs (there’s several of them!
) immensely exciting and enigmatic, but the cast is also picking up some people I really like. Sure, I’m not that huge a Steve Gutenberg fan, but I am delighted to see both Charisma Carpenter and Alyson Hannigan again (even though we haven’t seen Hannigan this far, this season). Additonally, they had Kevin Smith as an obnoxious store clerk in “Driver Ed”, and he never disappoints. Awesome dude. All I’m waiting for now is Joss Whedon’s guest appearance. In the meantime, I’m more than satisfied with a Radiohead reference, as Duncan asked Veronica, one day when she looked particularly miserable, “You’ve been listening to Radioheadd, haven’t you?” This could, of course be more of a “Clueless” reference than a Radiohead reference for all I know, but that dual stuff only makes it that much better.
I can’t really remember if there’s anything beyond this. Spending so much time with my sister has caused me to not having seen the latest episodes of Rome and Studio 60 yet, and I haven’t quite gotten around to getting my arse downtown to order Buffy Season 8 yet, so there’s not much to say on that front, either.
So I think I’ll call it a day here, and try to watch Studio 60 or something before I have to leave for my sister’s again. So long, and thanks for all the little 0s and 1s.

Studio 60 rocked. As did Rome. And I’ll see the Heroes later tonight.

And I ordered my BS8 subscription today!

Takk lillebror, men jeg tar ingen sjanser! Denne sesongen vil jeg se totalt uvitende, så jeg starter lesinga når du har gitt “faren over”-signalet!

But that’s, like, two minutes before the season ends…
Anyway, being the helpful little brother that I am, I’ve now gone through the first 15 episode reviews (i.e. the episodess we’ve watched so far), and the only one in which I found a spoiler was #2. So if you stay away from that one, you should do just fine.
I expect us to finish the season on Friday, so I won’t bother to check the last ones.

Snille lillebroren

Oh, and VM 2×6!
Rats taped underneath seats, visits to Aaron in jail, ice machines, and Douglas, employee of the month and annoying bastard! I gotta get around to buying this show on DVD soon. I think it’s good enough to be bumped past Firefly on my “must-buy-list”, to the extent that I have such a list. (Impulse purchases on Amazon is more like my thing, really.)

Not to mention 2×7!
I mean, creating sympathy for the sheriff?! My Gods, these people are awesome.
25. January 2007 @ 16:17 ( Permalink )
And then, just to freak me out some more, they make 2×9. A Machiavellian genious of a vice principal, a showdown between Katrina Echolls and Kendall Casablancas, and Meg.
If they keep this up, VM might actually dethrone at least one of Mr. ( “Master”, not “Mister” ) Whedon’s top two masterpieces. And who’d even believe that to be possible?

One more thing: Could anyone who has a better way with words and concept take a look at this thing over at Shepherder’s blog, and see if they could do better than me at explaining what makes Buffy and Angel such good shows? Because I felt like I didn’t do the shows justice at all…
25. January 2007 @ 18:00 ( Permalink )
I didn’t get convinced, but I’m biased by my preconceptions of the show. It’d be interesting to have a look at the pro’s and con’s, though.

So, to turn the question around, what is it about the show that you don’t like? Or what do you miss?
Hehe. This’ll be one o’ my worst posts you’ll ever read, because I’ve only watched the show for one (the first) season, and if I’m not mistaken, and i don’t believe I am, that was aired a long time ago.
From the top of my head I seem to remember I was quite tired of the endless vampire killing, the “semi-gothic”, “cheesyer-than-Switzerland”, style.
But this sounds more like some poor idiot going on a undeserved rant about something he doesn’t know the slightest thing about. And that’s just what it is.
You really shouldn’t turn questions around; you never know where the answer will come from. In this case, it most likely came out of my tasty part (ass)…

Hva?! Ingenting er for drøyt for meg!
“From the top of my head I seem to remember I was quite tired of the endless vampire killing, the “semi-gothic”, “cheesyer-than-Switzerland”, style.”
Yeah, I understand why you would think that. But if you watched this when it was first aired on Norwegian television… I dunno when that was, but I seem to remember that a friend of mine used to watch the show when we were 15-16 years old — that is, 6-7 years ago. (Mind you, I don’t know squat about Norwegian airing dates; I seem to remember having watched an episode of season 4 when I was 17 or 18, but that’s pretty much it.)
On a different note, I’m just more and more impressed with the cast of VM. They cast “The Todd” from Scrubs as a jock juror, and Lucy Lawless (LUSY FREAKIN’ LAWLESS!!!) as a cool FBI agent, and that’s just on top of all the ones I’ve mentioned above. Gods, I love this show.

*Whistles innocently*
I figured that I my undeserved rant needed some real foundation to fester on, so I picked up Ceres’ copy of Buffy, season 4 (i think). I thought I was going to get some real juicy stuff to pick on about the show.
Unfortunately that didn’t happen.
I ended up liking the good damned show
Which is, I suppose, a better result than my would-be ranting post. But now I got three new problems:
1. How the hell do I get hold of the rest of this show?
2. I’ll probably like Angel as well
3. I’m no less a nerd than my dear sister, which is a hard blow to my nerdiness-factor.
My favorite character is Spike. “I came, I conquered, I felt bloody bad about it.” I think I laughed for several minutes after that comment. And Buffy’s quite the girl. I finally see why you guys liked this show; she’s sexy as hell!
28. January 2007 @ 13:20 ( Permalink )
If you like Buffy season 4, that’s probably a good sign, as it’s one of the show’s decidedly weakest by almost all accounts - despite having many individually very strong episodes.
I suggest you check out Buffy season 1 through 3. Beware that some episodes in 1 and 2 are not so good, but that the season-arc of 2 and 3 in its generality are, I dare say, superb. And 1 has some of the wittiest dialogue, which on this show is saying a lot.
Regarding Angel, you’ll probably like it, too, if you like Buffy, but there’s no guarantee. It’s more adult, especially than Buffy’s early seasons (’cause 5 through 7 of Buffy is rather adult, come to think of it), and it’s darker. Much the same kind of humour and jokes, but less of them, in tone with the show’s more sombre mood. So, if you like Buffy’s darker parts - “Hush”, for instance, which you’ve seen, or season 2, 3 and 6 in general, I suspect you’ll like Angel. If you think Buffy’s most interesting when it’s cheesy and light and funny, and that’s what you’re expecting more of, most of Angel might be a bit of a downer. But I guess you won’t know ’til you try.
Happy you like it, anyway.
As for Buffy being “quite the girl”, bah, she’s the show’s distant fifth after Jenny, Willow, Cordelia and Faith. ;P (Though she does look good, I’m not denying that, ’specally in season 1 before she got all Ally McBeal.) It’s got exactly nothing at all to do with my liking the show, however, it’s how they act and convey emotion which is interesting, not how they look. But I suspect you know that.
28. January 2007 @ 17:36 ( Permalink )
Oh, and:
“1. How the hell do I get hold of the rest of this show?”
You go to a DVD-selling shop, you say “do you have “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” seasons 1 through 7?”, you wait a while, they show it to you, you give them money, and suddenly, miracles beyond and above, you have gotten hold of it.

“I ended up liking the good damned show”
Yaaaaay!
“3. I’m no less a nerd than my dear sister, which is a hard blow to my nerdiness-factor.”
How is it a hard blow that you’re as much of a nerd as your sister? Personally, I’d feel like a complete loser if I wasn’t more nerdy than my sister. Because being a nerd is good, right? (Besides, with your current fantasy hang-up, you’re so far into Nerdland already, you might just as well lean back and enjoy the ride, and let yourself be carried away into our strange world of semihomoerotic cameraderie and busty (fictional) women.
“As for Buffy being “quite the girl”, bah, she’s the show’s distant fifth after Jenny, Willow, Cordelia and Faith.”
Such a strange list. Here’s the correct one: 1. Tara (that crooked smile of hers blows me away); 2. Jenny; 3. Kennedy; 4. Buffy; 5. Spike (what?!).

If that’s too hard for ya, you could pay a visit to Amazon.co.uk (’borrow’ your mother’s VISA card, or something), or you could simply check out http://www.buffyandangel.vzz.net/Torrents/index.htm, who has five of the “Buffy” seasons, and one of “Angel”. Or torrentspy.com, or something.

Severe ones.
However, based on this, I think you’ll like the guest-strip on my webcomic released on Wednesday.
Also, how the **** can you drop Willow off the list?
28. January 2007 @ 23:47 ( Permalink )
Willow’s cute; putting her on such a list would feel as wrong as including Dawn.
29. January 2007 @ 00:21 ( Permalink )
Seeing as I’ve no qualms about including Dawn on such a list, I’ll pretend I didn’t get what you meant by that.

Well, I absolutely loved “hush” and “superstar” (pluss the one where Spike gets nutered), but other than that I most say that “Buffy”, so far, ain’t my favorite show. I’ll rank it beneath almost everything else that I’m keeping track of, but I suspect I’ll watch the rest of it, seeing as it quite good anyhow.
And “the cheesy parts” was the worst.
As for Buffy being “quite the girl”, bah, she’s the show’s distant fifth after Jenny, Willow, Cordelia and Faith. ;P (Though she does look good, I’m not denying that, ’specally in season 1 before she got all Ally McBeal.) I got a thing for blondes, but I must admit that Faith had me reeling. Those lips should be banned from the public :p You’re right about Buffy being too thin, though…
You go to a DVD-selling shop, you say “do you have “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” seasons 1 through 7?”, you wait a while, they show it to you, you give them money, and suddenly, miracles beyond and above, you have gotten hold of it.
I’ll probably sound out my sister for any copies to borrow, but knowing her, it won’t be all that many. My next step will of course be downloading, but considering my connection that’ll take quite a while. I’ll have to call in a favour or five… I’m not buying them.
How is it a hard blow that you’re as much of a nerd as your sister? Personally, I’d feel like a complete loser if I wasn’t more nerdy than my sister. Because being a nerd is good, right? Ah, yes. But if I wanted to give her a hard time about something, I’d always say: “You like Buffy, so you’re worse than me.” This will no longer be valid
Happy you like it, anyway..
29. January 2007 @ 08:53 ( Permalink )
As to your not liking it all that well yet… Well, season 4 is the weakest, almost universally agreed upon, the only one which might be weaker is the 12-episode long season 1, and mostly ’cause it’s filled with more “monster-of-the-week”-standalones than the show ever had in any other season, and was, obviously, a very new show in many ways.
And when you haven’t even seen seasons 1 through 3 before seeing season 4, it’s easily moved from “okay” to downright weak, ’cause of the involvement with character-arcs and the like being such a strong factor in the general quality of the series, jumping into the middle of it like that robs you of 80-90% of what I consider the shows single strongest element. So, those two things considered, and aded that you didn’t like the cheesy and season 4 probably being the cheesiest the show ever got, your actually liking it as much as you did is nothing less than very encouraging news. ^^

Well, I won’t be in Trondheim on the date you mentioned (Rørosmarta and stuff, like appointments with the dentist), but I’ll be claiming that kiss some day. (Lesson: Never ever promise Terje anything you’re not really, really, really ready to give him, because he’ll probably claim it just to spite you.)
So no virtual cheeks hereabouts.
As for the burning, I wasn’t originally too keen on that, what with Angel+Buffy needing a total of fifteen discs or so, and I need all my discs for myself (I have some 30 or 40 gigs of downloaded stuff that needs burning). Luckily for you, my sister has lots of discs she’s not really using, so she convinced me that if we burned the shows while watching Angel next week, we wouldn’t even waste any time on it.

Kissing a boy? By gods, Terje, that’s sacrilege! I won’t even consider it if you don’t say three “Hail Lotta’s” or do perform a very special river dance

Let me know the exact amount of dvd’s you use, so that I can refund your loses.
And I have already contracted out season 1 + 2 of Buffy for downloading to one of my non-virtual friends. Pluss; Ceres has season 5 on real dvd’s.
I guess I’ll be needing Buffy season 3, 6, and 7, and all the Angel you got

Tough luck, because I’m taking off at the 22nd. But we’ll make some mailing arrangements, that’s no problem. Hell, I’ll even pay for the postage. Meaning, of course, that you won’t have to refund anything, as far as I’m concerned. After all, I am doing a little missionary work for The Master.
Let me know the exact amount of dvd’s you use, so that I can refund your loses.
You’ll have to see what Kleinest has to say about that, as it’s her DVD-Rs. But lik I said, I’ll pay for the postage. No worries.
