Sigh. In my last post, I claimed that VM2×22 could rival BS5×22 and stuff like that in level of awesomity. Obviously, I forgot just how much I love BS7×22.

Because this episode is filled with all that good stuff I adore. There’s that scene in the high school hallway when the Scoobies talk about what they want to do tomorrow, there’s the scene where Willow does her thing and gets all blonde (although I’ll admit to seeing some dubious symbolism here; black haired and evil, blonde and good? Racial stereotypes, much? :P ), the girls’ metamorphosis (the background music during this scene and the scene where Buffy gets back on her feet nearly killed me), the Spike incident, Buffy’s earlier epiphany… the list goes ever on, just like a certain road.

I must, however, confess that I’ve become a little it skeptical to the season 8 comics again, as I’ve now restarted my concern about it not being able to live up to the show and its conclusion. It’s not that I distrust Master’s ability to create thrilling, mind numbing stuff, but I fear that my enjoyment of the comics will be clouded by my expectations. I expect something pretty close to the television show, and while I recognise that it won’t be completely different, I also understand that comics and television are different media, with different devices and and stuff like that, meaning that there will be differneces, and that migh, like I said, spoil my experience. Also, what I’ve seen of Buffyverse comics this far hasn’t really convinced me (excepting of course the awesome Fray, which was great all until the ending), particularly because they tend to be a little too large scale for my tastes. I mean, thirty feet demons and stuff like that have a tendency of coming in the way of what I really care about, namely the character interaction and related things.

Oh well. I guess it be good; and even if it isn’t, I’ll probably think it is, because of thesoothing effect it’ll have on my Buffy abstinences.

All in all, to get back on topic, an awesome episode. I felt that the amulet just as easily could have been replaced by a guy with a glued-on beard being winched down into the Hellmouth, but that could just be because I don’t remember the end of AS4 too well. And I cried more this time than the first, so…

Anyway, it struck me that I haven’t said much about the title topic yet; the relative greatness of various seasons’ endings. Naturally, there’s no denying that practically all the shows I like have brilliant season endings practically in every season (wow, this could be very wrong, semantically speaking). VM, Buffy, Angel, BSG (come to think of it, I haven’t really watched that many shows. Gotta do something about that) — they all have spectacular and emotionally thrilling conclusions, and trying to differentiate between them is as good as an impossible task. Pointless, anyway. I mean, how is it possible to say that one awesome thing is more awesome than another awesome thing? It’s ridiculous, is what it is.
