Where to begin? The plot is beginning to get so thick, so complex, that I have difficulties keeping track of anything not part of the main episode plots. Not that it was much character plot development in this episode — at least not compared to, sy, the previous one — but it went much slower than it has before.
Not so with the season arc, though. “Things are falling apart out there,” Connor said to Cordelia in an early scene, and I am thinking that that may be a preparation for Jasmine’s arrival. Get everything as chaotic as possible, then throw in Jasmine as a “saviour”. As evil plans go, that’s not too bad.
Neither is the Sun thing, which I’d completely forgotten. But now that I remember it again, I get goosebumps just from thinking about all the goodness to come: Angelus, Gina Torres, Faith, Willow, conspiracy theorist-Fred, … Oh man, I’m so psyched!
Furthermore, it was nice seeing Gwen again. I don’t know, but I like that character. I think it has something to do with herr pants, but I’m not sure. I’m certain, however, that her pants aren’t the only reason I like her. And speaking of Gwen, the events in her appartement really smelled like a locked room murder mystery, and it’s no wonder no one suspected the real assassin in that scenario. Oh, and there I had to add another feature of this season to the ever-growing list of stuff I’m currently looking forward to.
Finally, I’d like to mention the final sentence of the episode, namely Wesley’s “We need Angelus.” Now, that’s one line I never thought I’d hear. If I hadn’t heard it before, that is.
Finally-finally, this was the episode dedicated to the memory of Glenn Quinn. RIP, man. ![]()

Nono, what’s inside them is nice, too.
Seriously, though, not a bad character, and one I’d wish they’d brought back in season 5 to wrap things up (as I wish with Kate and Oz) though I hate how bursts of electricity has new effects on Angel/vampires from episode to episode, and she’s a big part of making that even fuzzier.

Yeah. Sometimes it stuns them, sometimes it makes them live — compare e.g. AS3×22 to AS4×2. Bothersome, that.

And sometimes it blacks them out, and sometimes they can just ignore it easily. (Can’t give you examples, but they’re out there)
The breath-thing is much the same, with blowing smoke, being under water, giving CPR, etc. Lots of inconsistancies.

Yeah.
Luckily though, those are rather few, taking into account that this is a show with well over 200 episodes.

It has 254, if you count both shows, which I guess you did. Counting the Joss-stamped comics as one each, you get something like 260.

Sigh.
I think I will get updated on these comments in the morning, when you two are done.

Good luck on that.

“the Joss-stamped comics”
Which ones are that?

The ones he’s participated in the making of. And someone also counts the ones other writers from the show has made, and while I’d like to, I don’t really feel like you can do that without Joss’ express “this is canon”-statement.
But what he personally has participated in is pretty safe:
- co-written: “Angel: Long Night’s Journey”. which takes place in early season 2, if I remember correctly.
- written: “Fray”, which is set some centuries after “Not Fade Away”.
- written parts of: “Tales of the Vampires”, “Tales of the Slayers”, including the “frame”-story of the former. Both are analogies with stories set in a great variety of times and places.
- and the upcoming “Buffy season 8″, of course, where he writes some issues and expressly states the entire run of comics will be completely canon.

Aha. I’ve read two of those, then (”Tales of the Vampires” and “Fray” ), and “Buffy season 8″ should be starting to trickle in in a couple of months’ time. Gotta keep an eye out for those other ones.

LNJ isn’t amazingly good or anything, but it DOES (if only slightly) raise a very interesting question regarding Angel’s soul I’m very surprised the show never delved into (whether or not the one he gets back whenever they magick it back into him is his original one or someone else’s…) TotS is very varied, much like TotV, but it lacks the nice frame-story TotV has, which is sad, if you ask me, it gives TotV a sense of wholeness the other one lacks.
In addition, you could maybe check out Buffy: Origin, which is a graphic novel based on the original Whedon-script to the Buffy-movie (before the show was ever even imagined), but changed to fit in the continuity of the show - basically a prequel. It’s post season 4-continuity, though, ’cause it’s with Dawn. It’s rather good, though they messed up with the illustrations - some of the vampires are drawn like bat-like monsters and similar stupid stuff.

As for buffy-comics I’ve read I’d probably like to see included in official continuity, I’d basically pull out “Ring of Fire” (written by Doug Petrie) and “Haunted” (by Jane Espenson). I’ve read others written by old Buffy-writers and such, but those two I seem to remember standing out a little.

I read “RoF” a couple of months ago, and I wasn’t too impressed. But that could be the artwork’s fault, plus the fact that comics is a fundamentally different medium than television. Besides, I didn’t like the monster — I felt it was so big, it got in the way of the character interaction.
I might not stand by these opinions after a re-read, though, as they were formed a long time ago, relatively speaking.

I liked that it dealt more with Jenny’s death, and Giles’ feelings about it. Basically, that’s why I liked the comic - other than getting Dru a little bad, it felt pretty much like it could be in the series, and it added something to a character-arc that I liked.

Yeah, there was that, of course. I suspect I might have to re-read that comic soon…
