It just struck me, that the intended function of categories is to facilitate the manouverability of the blog; that if readers want to find a specific post, they only have to click the most fitting category, and search.
It also struck me that my overrzealous use of the categories might be undermining this function. Of course, the categories also say a little about what the posts are about, but I feel that this latter function is supposed to be secondary to the former.
Oh well. It’s not as if anyone but me’s actually looking for old posts here, anyway. And using only one category per post… now, that would be boring. And possibly also confusing, especially as I’m not equipped with the kind of brain that’s required if one is to be systematic enough to keep to a specific consistant regime of what categories to attach to which posts.
Again I say “oh well”.

Posts
The more categories you use, the more spesific it can be. But many categories for the same thing, that should be unneccecary (spell like you wish). Lets have a look, shall we? Yes, we shall.
A Praise Chorus
Awe
Bliss
Glee
Loki
Recommendations
Yayz0r
All of those represents pretty much the same, don’t they?
(Oh, pick out the one who don’t belong there)
I actually look through the category archive once and awhile. And even though I find much I don’t need, I find the “useful” stuff.

Yeah, there’s always that. I could probably purge the categories list for such things as “Bliss” and “Glee”, since they’re both basically the same as “Yayz0r”, and “Pimping” could be merged with recommendations.
But those are all so generic that they don’t really serve any order function, they’re just there for giving a hint as to what a post is about…

Categorize away! Easily usable systems are for sissies! it’s not like we’re Mac-users, you know.

I don’t like categories the way you and Brækar uses them. I never ever use them to anything, so they’re redundant as hell IMO. But maybe they raise your google-ranking?

They’re extremely useful if you’re actually interested in ever re-reading something in the weblog and easily finding them when you’re to do just that.
So, I guess you just don’t re-read anything in either of those two weblogs, then. ^^

Maybe I like catching the government off their guard, too.

If you don’t use the categories to anything, Lotta, how come your post at Høytsvevende tankespinn do have the categories. And if people would like to check out more of your writing on my blog, they can use the “Lotta/Sinister” category. That is great, isn’t it?
