An episode dominated entirely by the rivalry between Angel and Spike. Gotta love it. They really do bring out the worst in each other, you know. Can’t really say I have much more to say about this episode. I thought the necromancer (my profession of choice, by the way) was a so-and-so weekly monster, but that he fitted the general vampiric theme of the episode — how better to test and bend and stretch the relationship between Angel and Spike?
So yeah, not much beyond the Spike-Angel rivalry. Except the last scene, where Spike asks Fred to help him. Up until that point, he’d behaved just like Spike used to do, back in the good old days, but that scene displayed the changes he’s undergone, I think. A nice touch.
Oh, and (can’t have a post without one of this; I’m thinking of getting the copyright for it, or something) he continued the skepsis of the previous episode, vis-a-vis the Angelettes’ W&H scheme. Nice belly-of-the-beast metaphor. The anticipation of “Not Fade Away” has been with me since I first finished the episode almost a year ago, and it sure as hell ain’t getting any smaller.
