Oh man, this has got to be one of the two or three best episodes of “Angel”.
First of all, it’s directly painful to watch, because you have so much sympathy for Wesley. He tries incredibly hard to make his dad proud of him, and he hardly gets anything but scorn in return. He is also under a lot of pressure, as Angel doesn’t really trust him yet (even though Wes can’t remember why), and Fred is spending much time with that creepy little doctor whose name I can’t remember at the moment (Ben something?). Luckily, though, he gets at least some recognition by the end of this episode.
Second, the episode has an unusually tense atmosphere. This does of course have a lot to do with Mr. Roger Wyndham-Pryce and his plans and actions, but also, somewhat amazingly, with this week’s monster. After all, we’re never really shown whether they’re good or evil (although much points towards the latter), something which helps raise the suspense level a bit.
Third, it’s very arc’y. Spike ( “Sex with robots is more common than most people think” ) confronts Eve; more doubts are raised about whether they’re doing the right thing; and stuff like that. Always fun.
And fourth, the episode is incredibly fun. The jokes are much better than I remembered them to be, and that’s saying something, seeing as I remembered them to be rather good.
Awesome episode, I can’t wait to watch it again in a month’s time or so.

Knox. The doctor’s name is Knox.
And I really can’t start commenting on what I think about this episode, I might start crying.

“Knox. The doctor’s name is Knox.”
Ah, I knew it was something short and snappish!
As for the crying, I know what you mean. Even I, an incredibly emotionally stunted person, almost begins to cry from this one. Awesome stuff.

You used such a mean quote in your title of the post, too! Makes me wanna drop everything and go watch it NOW. ;_;

Yeah, me too.
By the way, I was totally surprised by how trigger-happy Wes was in that situation; I actually remembered it as if he didn’t shoot until the guy (don’t wanna spoil this moment, if some idiots looks at something they shouldn’t) had gotten a grip on his hostage and had threatened a bit more.
But the way it actually was… much better.

Mmm… I can’t wait to get my hands on this show…

Won’t be long now; I’ve burned my way through Bs3-7 and As1-2 just this week. I might be able to have it in the mail before next weekend, if I’m not too lazy…

“But the way it actually was… much better.”
Yeah. I never messed up that, it was just the part about the scene that you’d misremembered that made such an impression on me from the very first time around. There was… such contrast. The world. His dad. Hesitation. Angst. Torment. And then suddenly “the world” seems to maybe be exchanged for “Fred”, and he empties the gun. Like that. Took less than a tenth of a second. He suddenly didn’t need to think anymore, he just… It makes me cry just to describe it like this, it was so gut-wrenchingly beautiful and sickening and… just… wow.

Yay, and also; yikes… You see, I’ve already watched Bs 4-5 (most of Bs 5 anyways) and I’ve repeatedly told you that I would be doing this. But I’m totaly psyched that Bs 3 is coming home before Easter. That’s great news

Remember to watch season 4/5 of Buffy parallell to 1/2 of Angel for max effect, in the order one buffy, one angel, one buffy, one angel, etc.
With B-6/7 and A-3/4 it’s not important, but make sure you get to Angel 4×22 before Buffy 7×20-22, ’cause there’s a little crossover there which’ll be nice go get in the right order. (There are also slight crossovers earlier in those two seasons, but you don’t really need to have the order right, won’t really ruin anything)

Thanks for the heads up, Loki. I’ll try to watch Angel as soon as I get it, but that ending of B s5… Wow… I gotta see what happens next

I meant, one episode Buffy, one episode Angel, etc, during seasons 4-5/1-2. If you’re already gotten to Buffy’s sixth season, you’re past the point where it really matters.

And you watched it out of order, with four first, and five before three?

Yeah, the man’s a crazyperson. I’m so blissfully happy I’m way to anal to ever place myself in a situation such as the one he has placed himself in; I’d be emberrased for the rest of my fracking life.

Yeah, me too. I gotta have it the Nazi way. Which is one of the reasons why I so rarely start reading new comic or book series, since so amazingly many of them are poorly marked when it comes to where in the sequence they fit.
Sigh.

THAT’s not an issue, there’s google. Take you four seconds to figure it out.

Yeah, like I ever plan my buys enough to actually check these things out before I leave home.
(Okay, bad excuse, I’ll agree.)

If you haven’t pegged me as a crazy person before this; you guys are crazy. There has to be something wrong with a person that likes the name “Lotta”, right?
18. March 2007 @ 16:18 ( Permalink )
People are very rarely pathologically crazy; most of the time we’re just different.

Most of the time?
All the time…
(But it is a nice excuse)
