When Kalle, Håvard and myself was at the hospital yesterday, the two former ones found a cheap DVD box in the hospital’s kiosk, a box containing three of Chuck Norris’ most famous movies. And as both Kalle and Håvard think Chuck Norris jokes are hilarious, they couldn’t do anything but buy this abomination. And tonight, as we sat watching a couple of episodes of Buffy (unfortunately, we didn’t get to watch more than “Doomed” ), our final flatmate joined us, and suggested that we watch a Chuck Norris movie instead. (He’s not a big Buffy fan, the moron. But then again, he’s a former neonazi and currently a large fan of totalitarian forms of government, even if these kinds of regimes’d most likely prevent him from doing any more drugs — so what else could one expect? He doesn’t like VM, either…
)
So we decided to watch “The Octagon“.
And boy, was that a stupid choice. The movie felt as if half the plot was lost during editing, the acting was shitty, the dialogue trash, and the action unimpressive.
Utter nonsense. But at least now I’ve seen it. 0.5/10.

Haha, I used to love the Octagon. I had it on VHS 20 years ago and watched it over and over again. I’ve seen the DVD in the shop for a reasonable price many times, and I’ve been tempted to buy it…
But I don’t think it’s a good idea…

And do you feel that seeing it counts for anything?

“But I don’t think it’s a good idea…”
Yeah, I don’t think The Octagon’s a place worth revisiting…
“And do you feel that seeing it counts for anything?”
It’s a classic, Lotta. And one should see the classics, if only to marvel at how they managed to become classics in the first place.

Really? A classic film like “Citizen Kane”, or classic in the sense of that it’s one of the better Chuck Norris films?
And also: Chuck Norris would NOT take the time out of his day of pleasing women to read this blog post

A classic in the sense that a lot of people had a special relationship to it when they were young, and that these people are making their own stuff now. Also, it was one of the first movies in the early 80s ninja wave, a wave which undeniably has had great influence on modern film making, if only by contributing to the near eradication of fist fights in movies. You don’t get alot of those these days, as most film makers want to use more spectacular fighting styles, and end up choosing an Eastern one, or something.

There’s something to be said for the sheer stupidity of western fist-fighting. “We’ll pummel away at each other!” The eastern ways, I’m not sure I like’m, they are so very much more dodgy.
No, literally.
