Sigh. It’s been a fairly busy week, movie-wise, and so now I’m five or six reviews behind again. Man, this sucks…
Anyway, I watched “This is Spinal Tap” last Thursday or Friday. This is probably the most famous mockumentary ever, tracking the attempted comeback tour of a hard rock band called Spinal Tap. They had a hit or two back in the sixties, but have been making albums ever since, without much success, and seeing as both the band and its management is composed of raving idiots, they have yet to figure out that they suck. Hard.
This is perhaps the film’s strongest part, and witnessing the social ineptness of the band is pretty much always fun, even if it some times goes so far it hurts to watch. There’s also quite a lot of satirical value here, especially if you like or dislike any bands from the 70s (if you couldn’t care less about them, you should probably stay away from it), since many of these bands actually consisted of practically braindead morons. But beyond this, the movie doesn’t have much to offer. It’s well made, though; both the acting and the more directly production related stuff is flawlessly done.
So, what’s my final verdict, then? A 5.0/10. Because no matter how fun it is, there’s not much else.
