One of my flatmates claimed that the series featuring Christopher Eccleston as the ninth incarnation of the Doctor, wasn’t all that bad. So now I’ve watched the first episode of this thing — my first encounter with Doctor Who since I accidentally came across an episode from the 70s, a couple of years ago.

And my flatmate wasn’t too wrong. The first episode — “Rose” — was amusing enough, and had an eerie scene or two, along with a good number of silly and/or funny ones, and while the episode plot was extremely ridiculous, the whole thing showed at least enough promise for me to keep watching it. Some horrible acting, weird weekly monsters, and a bit of bad writing (especially in the exposition) won’t be much of an obstacle.

It might be dumb of me to prioritise this over, say, season three of BSG or B5, but it’s only thirteen episodes per season here, and Christopher Eccleston is one of my favourite actors; he did a great Invisible Man in “Heroes”, and his portrayal of a psychotic army officer in “28 Days Later” was just short of brilliant.
