I’ve been meaning to write about this for a couple of days now, but haven’t found the time for it until now. And while the immediacy of the post’ll be lost, compared to what it’d been if I’d written it when I should have, I feel it has to be said:

I’ve used to make fun of Doctor Who, if only to myself, in part because of the Daleks. These unimpressive, ungainly-looking tin cans have to me seemed like the archetype of a banal, ridiculous, low budget sci-fi villain. Even though I’d never even seen one function in the show.

But all this changed two night ago, when I watched the sixth episode of “Doctor Who 2005″: Dalek.

After finding out what the Dalek could do, and more importantly, what they are, I no longer feel the urge to ridicule them. Instead, I feel relieved that the Dalek on “Dalek” was the last one of them, the last survivor of the Time Wars, because in the Who Universe, they are veritable nightmares. This one single, lonely Dalek managed, all on its own, to wipe out a small army, and was only defeated because it had been contaminated by the Doctor’s travel companion, and as a consequence killed itself.

The first really good “Who” episode I’ve seen, with hardly any slinniness, if any at all.

It was a small disappointment that another member joined the TARDIS crew at the end of the episode, as that character seemed awfully dull, but hopefully that’ll be resolved soon.
