My immediate reaction to this issue, is that it is the best one this far.
Because while it lacks those “OMIGAWD!1 IT’S HER/HIM/IT/THEM!!!1″ moments, it was a beautiful and sad story, with elegant pathos and an endearing main character whose name we never even learn.
Quite a treat; if all the “short ones” they intend to stick in between the longer arcs are as good as this, I do believe the Whedonites of the world are about to be spoiled again.
It will be interesting, I think, to see how Vaughn does in his attempt to jump after Wirkola.
(Who, by the way, should be immeasureably grateful for being used as a metaphor for Master Joss.)

He started out wanting to do the opening arc and maybe the closing arc, and just supervise the rest.
Then he said, oh, and he’d maybe write an arc in the middle somewhere.
Then he made mention that oh, yeah, he just had to write this one oneshot after his first arc.
Then he added that he was totally going to write another oneshot after Vaughan’s arc.
Somehow, this turned into announcing he’d probably write a oneshot between every arc, or at least that there’d BE a oneshot between every arc and he’d write a few of ‘em.
Now he’s writing issues 1-5, 10-11, and probably, from what I can surmise, 16. By that point in time, only two of the, what, ten other writers he’s gathered up for this comic book will have tried their hand on it.
The man’s crazy.
I love him.
Yay that you liked it. I won’t get to read it ’til I’m back in Norway…

Or, I WOULD’VE had to wait ’til I was back in Norway, if it hadn’t been for the wonderful miracles of the interweb!
