I caught the first episode of this show the other day, as one of my flat-mates recommended it to me, and he usually has top-drawer tastes. He might be onto something this time, too, although I remain sceptical.
Because basically, this reminds me of a rip-off of the show “Early Edition”, only instead of getting the newspaper a day early, the hero suddenly gets thrown back through time, usually at the most inconvenient of times. Once there, he has to save someone, before he is returned to his own time, where several days might have passed while he’s thought he’s been gone for no more than a couple of hours at most. Which of course complicates both his family and professional life, with the ensuing soap elements. They get a plus for throwing in some comedy in this part, though.
I think the show, well, shows promise. Because while the episode plot wasn’t too captivating, there’s a potentially fun set of characters, an inteligent main protagonist, and traces of a season arc, or at least some reason behind his sudden intertemporal journeys. Which is more than I can say of “Early Edition” — at least from what I remember of it.
A 6.0 or a 7.0 for this first episode, I think. Hopefully, they’ll manage to balance the season arc with the episode plots, and throw in at least some kind of explanation as to why our guy (who, by the way, is played by none other than the guy who did Lucius Vorenus in “Rome” ) gets thrown around like this.
