I have no idea who Tonybee is, but if he’s a mobster-bee like he sounds like, I really hope you’re not messing too much with him. I think the thought of a bee-mafia might reach the Top Ten List of Scary Combined Concepts

Nah, I was discussing Toynbee with my flatmates — one of whom wrote his master’s thesis about a Christian organisaton based on this theory of decline of Toynbee’s — just the night before, so I wanted the whole shebang.

Besides, I thought it might serve an educational purpose vis-a-vis those of my readers who aren’t you or me. Although I’d be hard pressed to say anything about who that was supposed to have been.

But I agree that yes, it would have been better for non-Terje persons if I’d just used that final sentence — the conclusion of Koeningsberger’s whole book, really. As a concluding sentence in the second to last chapter, it has a certain ring to it, and a certain generalness which is kinda appealing.

But, ultimately, I chose to use the last page almost in its entirety, as it kicked Toynbee kinda solidly in the balls, and I’ve never liked Toynbee.

Which reminds me that I should probably borrow that monster of a historiography book my history-studying flatmates keep whining on about, and read up on the current views on Toynbee. Yeah, I think I’ll write that down as a potential plan for tomorrow evening…

I had some problems finding a suitable quote today, as you might understand from the one I chose. The only one I seriously considered besides this one was an utterly silly little French rondel from the 13th century, but frankly it got too silly, even for me.
