First, I took my NwN Dwarven monk through a couple of levels. Which is always fun, as they get so many feats and special abilities, it’s a treat to play them. Then, just as I had cleared level 7 and killed Head Gaoler Aelfinn, I was roused by my flatmates who desired my company for general socialization and dinner. That’s cool, too.

And so, as I was sitting in our living room, with the smell of meat cakes and brown sauce filling my nostrils, our only female flatmate came back from school (she just finished her Master’s in History, and has been asked to work her paper into an article for some anthology or other), bringing the mail. And what did the mailman bring today?

He brought a brand new issue of SFX, and the good people of that revered magazine continued their time-honoured tradition of placing attractive-looking young people in the cover, with their heads naturally sticking up and obscuring the bottom part of the “F”. Something I found especially amusing the time they had Haydn Panettiere on the cover, and she was dressed in her Claire Bennet cheerleader uniform.

Anyhoo, as great as it was getting this month’s supply of popcultural goodness, the real treat was a package. A large, square (but not cubical) package, of the padded variety. Inside, I found even more popcultural goodness — Christopher Moore’s Lamb, the Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal, John Scalzi’s Old Man’s War and Terry Gilliam’s Brazil, all of which I’ve wanted to read or watch for some time.

And all this was courtesy of Amras Elensar, in response to me mailing him stuff which I guess I spent some NOK 55 on. And 49 of those went to pay for the postage stamps. I guess this is what is refered to as karma, or asymmetrical karma. Or perhaps it’s just plain ol’ gratitude.

Yet again: Anyhoo. Regardless of all this, I’m extremely grateful. And I might even start reading Lamb or Old Man’s War later tonight. :)

But I’ll be off now, gotta go and try to kill off Kalle’s bloody Githzerai rogue-monk. I’ve prepared a nice little haunted house for him to explore, and I hope the house’s inhabitants — a couple of Halfing and Elven rogues, as well as a bunch of random humans — will have more luck than the level 10 Paladin I tried last time, whom Kalle’s tenfold-cursed Gith simply disarmed, tripped, and then killed with ease. I’m hoping Close Quarters Combat, a lot of ranks in Escape Artist, Quick Draw and half a dozen short swords and other assorted weapons will help counter his damned Improved Grapple and ditto Disarm. Because if they do, all that remains are his ridiculous AC, attack bonus and saves…

So laterz.

And thanks again, Amras! :D
