No, the one I sent you was an oversized paperback edition that was in print for a couple of years. Practically worthless. However, since I have first edition, first printings of nearly all his other novels (I don't have "Agent to the Stars" or "Questions for a Soldier" - both being lim. ed.), I would've liked to get my hands on a similar copy of OMW. Too bad I can't justify spending a thousand NOK on it though :(

Also:

"Great review"

Thanks, I wasn't too unhappy with it myself, either.

"we’re in agreement about… yes, I double-checked; just about everything. We even agreed on the grade, which doesn’t happen that often."

While consensus can often be a bit dull, and the great Saint Thatcher has said, "I am a conviction politician. The Old Testament prophets did not say: Brothers, I want a consensus," I mighthave to say yay. Yes, I believe I do: Yay! :D

"Does this mean that I get another point in my favour in the “good recommendation” column? I mean, you’re still up by hundred on me, but it’s nice being able to help out friends with finding nice material."

You do, and we're starting to be pretty damn equal by now, if you haven't passed me already.

"What do you think about the fact that this novel nearly won the Hugo?"

On the one hand, I find it strange that a more this un-literary-fiction-ish novel made it that far up, on the other hand, not. But what do I know, eh? Still, it's not exactly Philip K. Dick or Arthur C. Clarke, is it?

"The latest OMW book is already out. It’s called “Zoe’s Tale”"

Yeah, I know; I saw an ad for it in the back of my TLC paperback. Not sure if I'll read it, though; I might if your review is glowing, but other wise I'm not sure if I'll prioritize it.

"You should pick up “The Android’s Dream”, seeing as it’s his best effort so far."

His best, you say? I have it lying on a shelf solmewhere close by, so I might check it out, if I'm in the mood for something like that the next time I've finished a novel and am looking for a new one to read.

"I’m so pissed off that I don’t have Old Man’s War in the original printing, even if the new one is cooler. It ruins my nearly perfect Scalzi collection!"

That's not the one you sent to me, was it? Because if it was, I'll feel like a shit for having donated it to the sff crowd of Harstad...

Great review, and we're in agreement about... yes, I double-checked; just about everything. We even agreed on the grade, which doesn't happen that often. Does this mean that I get another point in my favour in the "good recommendation" column? I mean, you're still up by hundred on me, but it's nice being able to help out friends with finding nice material.

Some things I'd like to say though: What do you think about the fact that this novel nearly won the Hugo?

The latest OMW book is already out. It's called "Zoe's Tale" and takes place during the same time frame that tLC does. I'm expecting it to arrive any day now, at which point I will devour it raw.

His next book is a spoof on a PKD book, called "The High Tower". You should pick up "The Android's Dream", seeing as it's his best effort so far. After that... we don't know much. Probably a new sci-fi series, since that's where his readership is. Maybe fantasy, but I wouldn't bank on it.

And the covers are awesome. I'm so pissed off that I don't have Old Man's War in the original printing, even if the new one is cooler. It ruins my nearly perfect Scalzi collection!
