It's also clearly true that they can smoke and get winded, but you could ascribe that to their system still pushing air through when they don't think about it, like force of habit, just not needing the air and not producing CO2. (Friends of the environment, these vampires) But then it makes no sense that Angel can't give first aid (what the exact prodecure is called escapes me, but the one where you breathe into someone's mouth), and it is established that he cannot. (Vampires and electricity is another.
