Comics, the ultimate art form? Combining the possibilities of books with those of movies, it is possible to answer the question I asked with a “Yes”. Comics I like include “Sandman”, “Preacher”, “Persepolis”, “Lucifer”, “Rocky”, “M”, “The Hedge Knight”, “1602″, “Elfquest”, “Valhall”, “Asterix” (preferably the old ones, the last couple of albums have been horrible), and a lot of others. Also, I’m trying to get into superhero comics, but I haven’t quite found the time yet.

Scrooge McD Nostalgia

I bought the first volume of the Norwegian “Walt Disney’s Hall of Fame” today, a book that collects some of Don Rosa’s first and best Scrooge McDuck comics. I haven’t started on the comics themselves yet, as it had some snacks in the beginning that I have to read. One of these tasty little morsels [...]

Ethaaaaaaaan!

Noooooooooooo!
The rest was not much more than okay, though. I’ve never really been much of a fan of action in comics, and this issue, being what it was, suffered from this, in my eyes. And the exposition of Twilight… maybe if I read it a time or two more, but as of now? [...]

Emily the Strange

Thought I’d pick up an issue of this thing, just to see what the hell it was, and it turned out that was exactly what it was: Hell.
Boring, pointless, pretentious, incoherent, you name it.
Most wasted NOK 49,50 I’ve ever spent.

X-Men 2

After coming home from “Spider-Man 3″, Kalle and I wanted to watch a really good Marvel movie, and decided to take a peek at one of my favourite superhero comic book adaption, “X-Men 2“.
It’s epic.
It has some great character moments.
There’s at least some semblance of character development.
It has an awesome cast, all of which deliver [...]

Spider-Man 3

Me and one of my flatmates went to see “Spider-Man 3” last night, as we both are comis geeks, and thus thought we ought to see it.
And it wasn’t that bad. I’d imagined something mediocre, like X3 (or what I remember of it, anyway), where too much time was wasted on action, so that I [...]

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Long Way Home, part III

Whoa.
And when I was done, Queen’s “You Take My Breath Away” was next in line in my WMP playlist. How’s that for a coincidence?
Half-way evil Willow.
A Angel-Buffy(in-nurse-costume)-Spike dream landscape with barbed wire.
Fi fa fucking fum.
“Ladies and other ladies… the indescribable Rosenberg.” - Xander.
“Well, this is really unimpressive. One attack by the undead and Renee has [...]

Lucifer: Evensong

“Evenson” is “Lucifer”’s version of “The Wake” — a volume for wrapping up loose ends, and making sure that all the major characters get to say farewell. In comparison to “Morningstar”, which concluded the series’ main plot arc with a rather flamboyant crescendo, “Evensong” is more relaxed, less tense, and reminds me a lot of [...]

“… I’d like to test that theory.”

“Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Long Way Home part 2″ continues pretty much where part 1 left off, albeit someplace else. Just as awesome, though. There’s issues, there’s a dream (which begins so lively that I suspect I wasn’t the only one to take it for reality at first), there’s magic, assassins in the night, [...]

“The thing about changing the world…”

“… once you do it, the world’s all different.
Everyone calls me ‘ma’am’ now.”
Oh man. The first issue of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Season 8″ has just left me in a state of chronic grinning, and fucking sea gulls are fluttering about in my stomach.
Sure, it was a little short (but that’s the way it is, [...]

Astonishing X-men: Gifted (and Dangerous)

Wow. I just read Whedon’s first X-Men story again, and boy, is it great. (“Just read” of course meaning just before writing this, not just before posting it.)
Sure, it obviously builds on a lot of continuity of which I know approximately squat, but it still manages to pull me in and move me. Like the [...]

Daredevil

Okay, so I am a sucker for comic books adapted to film, but this is where I draw the line.
I don’t think there was one thing, really, which appealed to me in this movie, with the possible exceptions of the guy who played the Kingpin and the ending — i.e. how Daredevil decided to deal [...]

XIII: The Day of the Black Sun

Earlier this week, as I was procrastinating by watching one of my room mates play the Game Cube game “XIII”, I suddenly remembered how much I loved the parts of this comic that I read in the Norwegian “Agent X9″ about a decade ago. Naturally, this cauased me to run to my room, log [...]

Whenever I feel down…

I take a look at this one. And this one. And suddenly things seem a little brighter.
(And I am well aware that I’ve linked to these stripes almost ten times before, but they really are that… man, I got to get around to reading some Jack Vance soon, so that I can learn some new [...]

w00t! yayz0r! And some more restrained comments.

First of all, lets get all this emotion out of the way:
Yaaaaaaaaaaaay! “Batman: Year One” by Frank Miller has arrived!
And almost one month before I expected it to come, at that!
Additionally, Year One wasn’t the only thing waiting for me when I came home from Røros last night. SFX #154 had [...]

Couple o’ updates more

1. I just wrote a new page, entitled “Buffysodes”, on which I’ve put links to all my quasi reviews of Buffysodes. In time, it might be renamed to just “’sodes” or something, and have links to more reviews, but for now this is all there is. It’s primarily written as a service to my sister, [...]

Wee!

Logging on to my favourite fantasy forum today, I found two great news in one post. The news were so great that I at first had some problems accepting them as true, so I set out so dig up som news about these supposed future events — the making of two television shows, based on [...]

Batman Confuses

Sigh. Yet another movie review. What has becomse of this thing?
Oh well, at least it’s usually good movies. This time, it’s “Batman Begins” — a truly exquisite comic book adaption, perhaps the best I’ve seen.
As indicated by the title, “Batman Begins” tells the tale of how Bruce Wayne became Batman, beyond the shallow “his parents [...]

“Faster Than A Speeding Bullet: The Rise of the Graphic Novel”

I read this quick little introduction to the history of graphic novels on Thursday, and I gotta say it was quite good. Naturally, I’m not too versed in the history of these things myself, but the book didn’t seem to disagree with what little I knew from earlier.
First there was a couple of chapters dealing [...]

12.11.06 — A procrastinator’s tale

In a couple of days, I have the last exam this term, and so I should be repeating stuf for it, so that I’ll stand a better chance of getting at least a C or something. However, I got a real procrastinator’s cramp today, and haven’t been able to do a single conctructive thing.
First off, [...]

Erik Lensherr is a Great Man — Ultimate X-Men #19-23 “Brimstone and Hellfire”

Wow, that scene in the park really was awesome. Sure, Loki’d kida spoiled it for me, so I sorta knew what was coming, but it was nonetheless awesome for that. And later, once those annoying non-humanoid mutants had “freed” him, and he put his Magneto helmet back on… I had shivers running down my spine [...]
