Random opinions of any kind. Most posts will likely be tagged with this one, seeing as I’m unsure what I can define as outside of the “opinion” concept. I’ll try to use it reasonably, though…

And I thought the American Right consisted of a bunch of nutters…

… but then I actually learned some stuff about the American Left, and I started to wonderr: Maybe there’s a reason why the Right is as it is?
First some background: This last week, I’ve been reading “The Right Nation: Conservative Power In America”, written by a couple of British “Economist” journalists. This is a book [...]

Knøttliten oppfordring…

Klikk på lenka, les litt, og kanskje skriv under?

I’ve never ever been happy about this before…

Okay, taking a break from the Angel stuff, which I guess isn’t too exciting for any of you (but don’t worry, it’ll all be over soon; I’ve only got 25 episodes left now), I have a small personal anecdote and/or revelation to retell to you all.
Last week, I visited a friend of mine in hospital. [...]

This is what I call Science Fiction!

Just came back from watching “Children of Men” in the movies, and it was bloody awesome.
The filmatographic elements were all perfect. The camerawork, done with an unsteady handheld, gave the film a more realistic atmosphere (during one scene, “blood” sprays across the lense, kinda like in “Saving Private Ryan”, except that I don’t think it [...]

Best movies

Okay, here comes part two:
THE TEN BEST MOVIES I’VE SEEN IN THE LAST TWO YEARS.
1. Donnie Darko
Seriously, this one’s *this* good. The way it deals with negative and positive consequences of choices is just awesome. Totally mind-blowing.
2. City of God
Growing up in one of Rio de Janeiro’s slums, from childhood in the 60s to late [...]

Favourite movies

Alrighty, I thought I’d make two movie lists — one of my favourite movies, and one of the best movies I’ve seen. Now, some of you might wonder what the hell the difference between “favourite” and “best” is, and even though I’m not entirely clear on it myself yet, I’ll try to clarify. As much [...]

Gobi next?

So, I bought “Sahara” today, and after a nice dinner, me and my sister watched it. Frankly, my expectations were kinda low, because my only knowledge of this film came from a trailer I watched a month a go or so, and in my experience, these kinds of action-adventures often turns out to be disappointments [...]

The Surpriser

Alright, I thought I’d follow up “Donnie Darko” with watching another one of my DVDs that I haven’t seen before, as I said I planned on doing. Also, It has been kindly suggested that I’m too kind when I rate movies.
Thus, I required a DVD I hadn’t seen before, and one which I suspected I [...]

The Future — A Pessimist’s View

The pessimistic vision of future world developments:
As no one saw the economic advatages to reversing the emissions of climate gasses, global warming was never prevented or diminished in strength. Because of this, the melting of the ice caps continued its slow progress, and sea levels rose. Also, the deforesting of the world continued, due to [...]

It would have been better with less Sandman-like art… — Ultimate X-Men #13-18 “World Tour”

Because there was a lot of really read-worthy stuff in here. There was drama, character interaction and development, a well-structured plot, interesting (and fun; one should never forget fun!) secondary and tertiary characters (wow, I think I just invented a literary phrase, although I’m convinced a) that the English language already has a word for [...]

Bloody bureaucratic pedants…

I could be finished reading for my political science paper on UN, war and peace, having read a couple of chapters from books outside of the course’s syllabus. But nooo, the bloody pedantic bureaucrats who run the department of political science and sociology here at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology have decided that [...]

Return of the rogue demon hunter — AS1×10 Parting Gifts

You never know until you have to make the choice — AS1×9 Hero

Another contender for the Best S1 Episode Throne, this episode was one of the most thorough and whole episodes I can remember. From the first scene, it was built up towards the conclusion, where women and half-demons alike proved their true mettle, focusing on what makes a hero.
The dialogue was awesome, always circling around the [...]

“Together you were strong, alone you are weak” — AS1×8 I Will Remember you

My tears won’t stop running. I don’t think I’ve really contemplated the real implications of this episode before — because I did’t have the neccessary knowledge the first time, perhaps –and now that I do, it feels as if a black hole opened up in my chest.
This is perhaps Angel’s finest moment, the moment where [...]

Yeah, Spike! That’s the fucking way to treat those treacherous fucking motherfuckers!

Finally, one who has some god damn clarity!
(Paused the episode to post this. After all, he’s saying just what I’ve been daydreaming of saying for the last half hour.)

Ungrateful bunch of fucking ingrates - BS7×19 Empty Places

Sure, the attack on the vineyard probably wasn’t too clever. But where the fuck does these people find the bloody nerve to criticise her for not earning anything!
How many times hasn’t Buffy saved Willow, Xander, Giles, Anya, Dawn(!!!) — every goddamned one of them! And one — ONE! — mistake, and they kick her out [...]

Mmmm.

Blueberry tea. Is anything as good? Nice words, too.

Political Compass… 3rd time.

Took that political compass test again, and what do you know? I’ve moved both towards the right and towards the authoritarian extreme. In febuary, I ended up at -9.38 on the left-right axis, and at -8.46 on the authoritarian-libertarian axis.
This time, on the other hand, I ended up at -5.38/-6.72. Which probably just goes to [...]

“There’s only me” — impressions of BS7×05

One of the best Buffy episodes ever. Character driven, excellent dialogue, a stunning plot, and heartbreaking character moments, two of which brought tears to my eyes.
(Here be spoilers! Or so I believe…)
..
I’m not really sure if I can say much more than this, as my words’ll only ring hollow in my ears. It’ll merely be [...]

Finally! My Antiquity Collection Is Complete!

Today, after looking for Thucydides‘ “The History of the Peloponnesian War” for over a year, I finally found it!
This means that I’ve finally completed my collection of what I consider to be the pearls of Hellas, which in addtition to Thucydides’ masterpiece includes Plato’s “The Republic“, Herodotus‘ “Histories” and and Xenophon’s “The Persian [...]
