Me and two of my friends decided that the first of May should be welcomed in a proper fashion this year. I’ve been wanting to watch 300 ever since I read some quotes from the comic novel (provided by Loki, of course), but thanks to my local cinemas weird affection for children’s movies and film from the far east, this has been rather impossible. When the day arrived that I could actually see it without traveling 300 km (fitting, but not comfortable or justifiable), it was an easy choice to make.
As for the film itself, there isn’t much I have to say that hasn’t been said already. It was damned beautiful; who knew cutting a mans head off could come off as almost pretty? It was funny; the scene where the Persians “block out the sun with their arrows” made me snigger out loud. The story lacks a good many things that “Sin City” had, but all in all I felt it was a rewarding experience, and it’s certainly on my “to buy” list for when it hits the stores. 8,5/10.
I promised you an outrage, and here you are: The so-called “experts” over at VG.no have reviewed the movie, and the things that sad excuse for a critic has to say about 300, well… It makes me wonder if he didn’t watch it with a tad too sticks stuck up his arse. I’m not listening to what that certain tabloid has to say about movies ever again (not that I remember ever having, but there you are). If you find this movie in any way “homo erotic”, then you are better off booking an appointment with a shrink the next time you wanna watch a movie where people build ten feet high walls made of dead bodies. You gotta be one sick bastard to come up with something like that.
Listen to P3’s Filmpolice in stead. They know what they’re talking about.
