Being a student at a relatively small, even by Norwegian standards, high school, you normally don’t get too much excitement. You go to school every day, at the same time and come home, every day, more or less mentally exhausted from doing things that you, more or less, had no interest in doing in the first place. You get stupid homework (that you mostly neglect to do) and tests to study for that kinda have to do but still try to slip away from. After a while of this it’s quite understandable that any break from the norm would be warmly welcomed. Even if it’s just a lecture.

Wait a minute! Did I say “just a lecture”? Heck, that isn’t even close to what I had intended to write. It must be the mental exhaustion talking, ’cause what I meant to write was: “a brain-spankingly awesome lecture by one of my favourite Norwegian authors.”

Are Kalvø came to my school today and held a two hour long lecture (it was actually blatant self-promotion for his new novel as well as his earlier work, but he disguised it well). He was, of course, his usual brand of brilliance and in a matter of seconds he managed to get the entire audience on their knees, shaking with laughter. We’ve had other people come and do these kinds of lectures, but Kalvø wiped the floor with them so badly that I feel like I should invent a new word to describe his superiority. I even got him sign my sister’s copy of “The Bible #2” (I was the only one who asked him to sign something).

So in the end I just thought I had to blog about this, ’cause it was one of those rare days that you know you’ll look back upon later and smile wistfully while you think, “Ah, that was one of the good ones…”. And indeed it was.

Indeed it was :)
