You have no evidence Terje's alive. There's at least a dozen more interesting reasons explaining this. A small selection:

- He has a twin brother who has killed him and resumed his life, and it's taken him two months to read up on Terje's internet-activities enough to dare venture out on the Net.
- Terje wrote this post ages back, cunningly predicting your revived interest in season 1, and in his will demanded that his lawyers search your weblog once a month for posts of this kind, if they do, posting the comment in his name.
- In her immense grief over the loss of her grandson, Terje's grandma is trying to get into the mindset of Terje and thus get closer to him, by impersonating him online.
- Terje's a liche.

Wooot! Terje's alive! Good to see you, man; teh intarwebs are never as entertaining as when you're around to nitpick ;) (No, really - this is me being sincere!)

And here we are in 2008, still discussing BtVS. It's like nothing has changed at all.

I was just skimming your RSS thingy when I came across this, and even though I've been doing my best to make you think I'm dead these past two months (at least that's what it seems like, in my more reflective and/or retrospective moments), I just had to comment, and say I agree. Wholly.

Granted, as already noted, the plots are often cheesier than a French grocer's; the "special effects" are usually laughable (if you care about such things, that is; I'm blessed with a wonderful disregard for graphic effects -- it's cool when they're awesome, but not too tiresome if they're not); and yadda yadda ya.

But it's still Whedon, and that shows. The characters might not be as deep as they grow to be (no shit? :P ), but they're immensely cute, regardless, and they become even more so when you've got the later seasons in mind. The dialogue is also rather swell, abound with sarcasms and other ammusing peccadilloes as it is. The season as a whole just reeks of innocence and potential, and that makes it quite enjoyable.

As for the episodes, "Angel" and "The Pack" are my current favourites, with "I Robot... You Jane" dangling at the other end of the scale.

Actually, the praying mantis one gets a lot of undeserved heat, I feel, due to its particularily rotten special effects. I don't think the plot is that bad, when compared to a lot of other less-than-high-quality episodes in for instance season 2 and 4. But yeah, among the season's weakest, definitely.

No, I definitely enjoyed "Nightmares" the most, though the ones you mention are also pretty good. The puppet episode was originally my favourite, but it wasn't as good upon the re-watch.

There are some poor episodes here, though; I have to admit that. Especially the praying mantice one with Xander. Ugh...

Probably does.

"Nightmares" isn't the best, though. "Out of Mind, Out of Sight" is. "Nightmares" maybe ties with "Angel" for second place. The pilot, the season finale and the one with the puppet are all pretty damned good too, though. And put together, those make out seven of twelve episodes. So clearly the season isn't as weak as it's made out to be, when I can list seven very good ones just like that. And the remaining five really aren't that weak either, just... somewhat more cheesy than most episodes of later seasons.

NB! No review of the season will be forthcoming. I walked down that path last year, and I feel like I've just clamoured free from its madness.
